If you think Valentine's Day sucks, here's something.

Okay, just know this is coming from someone who is on the singler side of things at the moment. I will be the first to admit that Valentine's Day can be a difficult holiday to enjoy when you're not dating someone. But my thoughts on it have evolved a bit over the last couple years, and I'd like to share this transformation with you. You might say I have turned from a bitter, cupid-hating caterpillar into a beautiful, love-loving butterfly. You might say that.

Here's the thing. If you're hating today because you're single, let me invite you to just cut that out right now.
Seriously, I insist.
Stop it.

If you hate today, just remember this:
It's not the world's fault for inventing and celebrating some dumb holiday year after year.
It's not all these couples' faults for being happy and in love when you're not.
May I be so bold as to say that if you hate today, it's your own fault. I say, if you waste today, and you miss your chance to feel and spread happiness, you have no one to blame but yourself.

Because today isn't just for couples. Today is for everyone you love. Today is for everyone who has ever done anything kind for you or made your day better or made your life better or expressed love to you in any way. Today is a day to show your appreciation and return the favor. I know you should be showing people you love them all year round, but it's no different from how we celebrate Christmas to emphasize the Savior whom we ought to be celebrating year round as well. Celebrate your friends! They deserve it, I assure you. Celebrate your parents. They made mondo sacrifices for you. Celebrate your teachers. They take tons of time to prepare material for you to learn by. Celebrate the people who serve you at restaurants. Celebrate your pets who keep you company when no one else will. These people make your life so much better, and you love them for it, so show them that. Today is not a day to sulk because you don't yet have someone to snuggle with and kiss your face all the time. Today is just your chance to go the extra mile for everyone who has done anything else to uplift or inspire you. Today is your chance to let your loved ones know that they made a difference in your life.

I know, that's corny. I don't care. It's the truth.
It's not fair to take all the nice people in your life for granted just because you haven't been smooched lately.
So pull yourself together, bake a cake, slap a ton of cliche pink frosting on it, and share it with somebody.
